Hell's Gate National Park

Hell’s Gate National Park is a scenic wildlife and adventure destination in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, located near Lake Naivasha, approximately 100 kilometres northwest of Nairobi. The park is known for its dramatic cliffs, deep gorges, volcanic rock formations, and expansive grasslands. Unlike many Kenyan parks, Hell’s Gate allows visitors to explore parts of the landscape on foot or by bicycle, creating a more active way to experience the natural environment.

The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, elands, gazelles, baboons, and numerous bird species. It is also associated with birds of prey, including vultures and Verreaux’s eagles, which can often be seen soaring around the cliffs. Visitors can enjoy game viewing, hiking, cycling, rock climbing, and exploring attractions such as Fischer’s Tower and the park’s dramatic gorges.

Hell’s Gate National Park forms part of the wider Great Rift Valley ecosystem and is surrounded by a landscape shaped by ancient volcanic activity. Its proximity to Lake Naivasha makes it easy to combine a visit to the park with boat trips, birdwatching, and other activities around the lake. From its striking geological formations and wildlife to its hiking and cycling opportunities, Hell’s Gate offers a distinctive adventure experience in Kenya.
